  • Job Description

    This position is responsible for assessing the insurability of applicants for Living Benefits (DI and CI) individual insurance products with the goal of making decisions and classifying them according to corporate and departmental standards and objectives.  
     
    Accountabilities:

    • Communicate with head office departments, regional sales/marketing offices, advisors and medical staff on a regular basis pertaining to application; with the goal of developing the file by requesting information required to assess insurability
    • Determine insurability through detailed analysis of medical, financial and other non-medical evidence
    • Approval or declination of individual applications for insurance on a timely basis, based on findings
    • Provide explanations on modified decisions to help with the sale of these policies
    • Commitment to career learning and development through industry related course completion

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    • Completion of a University degree or 3 year business-related diploma
    • Knowledge of anatomy, psychology, medicine and accounting required
    • Strong computer experience and technical aptitude required
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to effectively work in partnership with sales partners, team members and other internal partners
    • Self-motivated individual with excellent analytical and timely decision-making abilities
    • Must be well organized, ability to work within time limits sometimes with conflicting priorities and capable of quickly adapting to change
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
    • Participation in education programs such as LOMA, ALU, and RHU would be considered an asset
    • Candidates with underwriting experience in Individual or Group Insurance will be given highest consideration
    • Bilingual (English / French) written and verbal communication an asset
    • Willingness to work extra hours when needed to meet service goals
