  • Job Description


    • Develop and implement, model driven frameworks to support our Individual and Group customer business
    • Advanced data querying/Data preparation using SAS/SQL/Python
    • Collaborate with business subject matter experts, to understand the data and how it can be used to solve business problems
    • Innovate to source and prepare data to support modeling efforts, leveraging structured and unstructured data
    • Liaison with GWL data team to ensure the validity, the frequency and efficiency of the data
    • Lead, manage and deliver advanced analytics solutions through consulting type engagements with internal business teams
    • Become a GWL leader in data science and machine learning
    • While this job requires mathematical skills, it also requires strong presentation & communication skills as there will be significant interaction with executive leadership across multiple lines of business.
    • Prove to be a mentor to junior data scientists / co-op students on the team

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    • Advanced degree (MSc or Ph.D.) in Statistics, Math, Comp Sci, Engineering or other related discipline
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in either statistical/data analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, deep learning or optimization
    • Ability to communicate effectively with management, advisors, customers, and prospects
    • Strong analytical skills for problem solving purposes and to monetize value for the organization
    • Strong creative thinking skills to determine unique ways to deliver on unmet customer needs
    • Proven interpersonal / teamwork skills on high performing teams
    • Experience working on project teams to analyze business needs
    • Proven ability to learn and handle multiple priorities in a challenging work environment
    • Proven ability to think at an abstract level
    • Among the top 5% of Excel users
    • Highly proficient in the other core Microsoft Office applications
    • Mix of proficiency with SAS, Python, R, SQL, VBA, C++, Java
    • Some travel should be expected. Winnipeg, London, and other travel may be required, but on an exception basis.
