    The Storage Services team is responsible for providing Storage operations and technical support services to meet the service requirements of the business for Great-West Life, London Life, Canada Life, Investors Group and Mackenzie Investments.

     

    The Storage Support Technical Specialist role reports to the Manager, Storage Services, and is part of a team responsible for providing 7x24 hour support and consultation in the Data Protection environment.

      

    The Storage Technical Specialist will provide support for Storage services across the enterprise, performing second level support and acting as a resource for technical infrastructure projects. Typical support activities include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting Storage and software issues, reporting, provisioning, patching and maintaining the Storage infrastructure for the Open Systems Data Protection environment.

     

    Accountabilities:

    • Provide day to day administration, operation and maintenance of the Open Systems Backup and Recovery infrastructure.
    • Provides 2nd level Storage support of all the storage shared services with a focus on the backup and recovery environment.
    • Identifies resource utilization trends and recommends options for addressing capacity issues in order to meet business requirements and service level targets.
    • Works with teams to ensure smooth implementation of new/upgraded storage infrastructure.
    • Provides support to other Engineering & Operations Support Specialists regarding the installation and configuration of software or hardware.
    • Manages and monitors ongoing data protection performance and availability to ensure business service level expectations are met.
    • Identifies process improvements and opportunities within enterprise storage.
    • Operate within the framework of enterprise architecture and technology standards.
    • Work with project teams to implement data protection services.
    • Ensure systems are engineered to meet business service level expectations, as well as corporate I.S. standards.
    • Provide ‘level 2’ service desk support for Open Systems Backup and Recovery.
    • Acts as a subject matter expert on the data protection environment to projects as needed.
    • Conduct problem management for technical problems and issues.
    • Provides 7 x 24 on-call support on a rotational basis.

    Qualifications and Competencies: 

    • Degree or diploma in a related discipline (computer science) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a large-scale Information Services operation or a technical support organization.
    • Working experience with NetWorker, Veeam, and Data Domain would be an asset.
    • Working experience of Open Systems Backup and Recovery hardware, software, and tools.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Knowledge of I.S. processes including change, incident, and problem management.
    • Knowledge of Open Systems storage systems tools and functions.
    • Knowledge of system management tools.
    • Knowledge of security management principles
