  • Job Description

    The AVP Canada Taxation, reporting to VP Canada Taxation, is primarily responsible for leading and managing the financial and management reporting function for Great-WEst Lifeco Inc. ("Lifeco") and its Candadian subsidiaries. The AVP has a mandate to continuously manintain the integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of the Canadian reporting function process.


    The AVP is the liason between the Canada Taxation and Global Tax Accounting groups


    The AVP assists in the annual Canadian corporate income tax filing as well as the analysis of new or changing accounting standards, special transatictions and tax planning opportunities.



    • Quarterly and year-end tax provisions under IFRS for Lifeco and its Canadian subsidiaries
    • Other Canadian reporting deliverables including annual budget and DCAT reporting, ICOFR process narrative and testing, LICAT, country by country reporting and various deliverables for lines of business
    • Development, coaching and training of staff members
    • Analysis of new or changing accounting standards, special transactions and tax planning opportunities
    • Documentation of Canada tax accounting policies
    • Assist in the annual Canadian corporate income tax returns filing

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    • Completion of a professional accounting designation (or equivalent)
    • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course
    • At lease 10 years of experience in Canadian taxation (Canadian insurance taxation experience is advantageous)
    • Exceptional decision making, analytical and problem solving skills
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities to achieve required results
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work independently and also work collaboratively in a team environment
    • Passion for developing others and developing a high performance culture
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
