    Position Overview:


    We are recruiting multiple Disability Case Managers for our Ottawa Disability Management Office. The case manager is responsible for investigating Short Term, Long Term Disability and Waiver of Life Premium Claims, including assessment of medical and eligibility information and accepting/declining the claim as warranted. The decision must be communicated to the claimant and policyholder in a professional and effective manner. The office works in a team environment. The Case Manager is also responsible for delivering timely, professional and responsive service to our clients and their employees.

    This role is requires the ability to work in a fast paced environment and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    You will be responsible for the ongoing management of assigned disability claims (STD, LTD and Life Waiver), including assessing barriers to successful and timely return-to-work, engaging with stakeholders to implement strategies to address those barriers and support a return to employability. You will develop proactive disability management plans which are goal-oriented to achieve effective and positive outcomes.


    Accountabilities:

    • Commitment to living our values of Customer View, Integrity, Partnership and Communities;
    • Assess new claims that are of a complex nature to determine initial entitlement for benefits within the contract provisions, obtaining further information from a variety of sources when necessary;
    • Conduct detailed telephone interviews and collect medical reports to obtain relevant and necessary information for claim assessment and ongoing management;
    • Proactively develop and execute comprehensive, goal-oriented management plans, including the identification of appropriate cost effective measures to manage claim duration;
    • Prepare and evaluate cost-benefit analyses to validate claims management expenses;
    • Implement return-to-work programs of less than twelve weeks in duration;
    • Initiate further investigation into complex claims;
    • Work with our rehab partners to coordination and review ongoing medical care and rehabilitation programs to ensure they are produce positive effects;
    • Effectively communicate claim decisions to claimants and employers and respond to inquiries (both written and verbal) from claimants, employers, physicians, lawyers, and internal Great-West Life business partners;
    • Clearly and effectively deliver complex and sensitive messages, through both verbal and written communication;
    • Adhere to high standards of privacy and confidentiality and accurately maintain file documentation and internal records;
    • Represent Great-West Life in client meetings and legal proceedings, when required.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Exceptional decision making, analytical and problem solving skills;
    • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities to achieve required results;
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills in both languages (French and English);
    • Commitment to customer service excellence;
    • Demonstrated ability to tackle contentious situations and negotiate positive results;
    • Highly skilled at and comfortable dealing with ambiguity;
      Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
    • Strong commitment to learning and workplace continuous improvement;
    • Post secondary degree or equivalent;
      Experience in disability management would be an asset;
    • Knowledge of legislation related to Disability Management (i.e. Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Health & Safety) is an asset;
    • Completion of course work in LOMA, CEBS or NIDMAR, etc is an asset;
    • English/French bilingualism.
