Great-West Life is looking for a Director, Information Security Operations eager to take our security technology operations to a new level.  You are a skilled security practitioner and leader.  You are an avid problem solver, you relish applying structured problem-solving techniques to resolve difficult problems in a complex technology landscape.  To be successful in this role, you have solid experience leading security infrastructure implementation, a demonstrated track record of improving operational efficiencies through automation, instilling a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring talent, and building, leading and inspiring high-performing teams.


    Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Information Security Operations and Administration, you will be accountable for the maintenance, management and production support of our global security infrastructure. The Director of Security Operations provides security infrastructure support based on business requirements, discretionary enhancement projects, and ensuring the quality for all security systems. This includes support and maintenance of technology, change management, resource management, and ensuring adherence to established methodologies and standards for security and general technology processes.  The Director of Security Operations leads a large team of security technology specialists with a diverse set of technology skills across multiple operational domains. The role includes oversight of 24x7 continuous support as well leadership during critical incidents and outages. The Director provides both operational guidance to the team as well as security technology expertise.

    What you’ll do:

    • Develop and implement sound annual plans to achieve desired business goals related to Information Security operations.
    • Partner with the CISO and other IS leaders to develop business cases for the introduction and expansion of risk capabilities and services.
    • Develop and implement service systems to ensure effective identification and delivery of Information Security operations, services and solutions.
    • Ensure service security cards are executed as designed, and updated and evolved in alignment with changes to security services and direction. Oversee and manage the effective execution of and compliance to applicable internal controls. 
    • Drive forward thinking as related to continual improvement and cost optimization. Develop and deliver an automation strategy; ensure automation is a part of every process.
    • Ensure area services meet SLAs, are operating effectively and in accordance with operational and compliance requirements. Ensure the timely resolution of escalations, and resolve and ensure permanent fixes going forward.
    • Ensure the development, testing, and measurement for effectiveness of information security controls in the provision of business continuity services.
    • Enforce effective control strategies, processes, and technologies (SPTs) that reduce the susceptibility (vulnerability) of an information environment to attack. These SPTs protect information whether in storage, transit, use, administration, or disposal.
    • Deliver to defined project success measures: scope, budget, schedule and quality. Participate with Vendor Relations in contract negotiations related to new or upgraded technologies
    • Manage workload balancing and work assignments of direct reports. Provide leadership to staff, mentor upcoming leaders, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, prepare and deliver annual performance reviews.
    • Develop staff development strategies to equip them with skills required to support the organization. Support individual professional and career development through the execution of professional development plans.
    • Provide financial management of annual operating and initiative expenses. Develop, manage and report on budgets for reporting work units.
    • Create relationships with new acquaintances quickly and confidently.
    • Seek to understand business needs and to deliver prompt, efficient, and high-quality service.
    • Drive results and contribute to change processes that improve business unit performance and create a culture of accountability.
    • Familiar with COBiT, CRISC, NIST, ISO Standards.


    What really sets you apart:

    • Possess Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
    • Strong strategist and leader who can articulate a vision and inspire the team to deliver on challenging goals.
    • Demonstrate strong operational aptitude, and keen desire to ensure customer satisfaction while enforcing and enhancing security compliance.
    • Analytical of highly complex situations, as well as experience with structured problem analysis techniques such as Kepner-Tregoe.
